This Thursday 11 December… How to Say It

This week, we are focused on How to Say It. This is one of the early projects in the Competent Communicator manual, but it contains many powerful lessons for all of us. On our agenda:

  • TME Sam Jones DTM
  • Training Wishing your words would work well? Emily Minor CC CL
  • Speech Wendy Wang ACB ALB
  • Speech Daniel Smith DTM – C1 revisited…
  • GE Chris Haynes CC
  • IE Joyce Hu CC

Remember: Membership is restricted to CCs and above but meetings are open to all.

Thursday night at Baileman.

Congratulations: Spike Gu ACB

Last night, we were privileged to watch Spike Gu ACB deliver his tenth advanced speech. This was a team technical presentation in which he worked with three other people – a demanding task at the best of times, but one that he pulled together well.

It’s great to see someone with talent practising and refining their skills so that they can demonstrate their abilities when it counts.

Congratulations, Spike!

Other highlights included a speech from the Public Relations Manual from Chris Haynes CC, a great job as Toastmaster from Bill Wang ACB, and Southbank (Brisbane, Australia) Toastmaster Andrew Smith delivering a smooth and integrated Table Topics session.

Our training was on eye contact. In this, Daniel Smith DTM emphasised the need to:

  • Project yourself
  • Be present, and to
  • Connect with the Purpose of your speech

CAT Agenda – 13 November 2008

Our next meeting is in two weeks…

Congratulations: Delphy, Chris and Dan

Our Contest night provided great entertainment for all.

Delphy Chow was a standout with some dynamic kicks and dancing to take the Humorous Contest championship, followed by a great performance from Chris Haynes.

Dan Smith took out Table Topics, with Chris Haynes again in second place.

All three are now eligible for the Area Contest to be held later this month – good luck to them all!

This week at CAT… Impact

First impressions last.

The first experiences we have with a person, idea or organisation have a disproportionately large impact upon our thinking. It’s one of the ways in which we are irrational. But it is predictable and real.

This week, to start the new Toastmasters year, we are going to be welcoming our newest member, Chris Haynes CC to deliver his first Advanced speech.

We will also be welcoming the high energy Spike Gu CC for a Dramatic Talk from The Entertaining Speaker Manual.

And we will be welcoming experienced Toastmaster, Daniel Smith DTM, for a training session that might be entitled “Impact: How to grab your audience by the throat!

Amongst other things of course… looking forward to seeing you in room 712 of the Baileman this Thursday night!
